With the safe arrival of Carlos Tevez and other potential big names still to come, Mark Hughes’ squad is now bulging with talent.

Assuming we sign another “star” central defender (possibly Terry or Lescott) and striker (Adebayor?), and assuming everybody will be fit to play, what do you think will be the starting line-up and subs for the first Premier League game of the season at Blackburn? Once you have decided who is on the teamsheet, then decide who else you would keep in your first team squad, and who you would move out to another club. I have listed 30 players below for you to chose from, but I think you’ll agree that it will not be easy for Mark Hughes to keep everybody happy, so bear that in mind before you are about to question a team selection or substitution!

Goalkeepers: Given, Taylor, Schmeichel.

Defenders: Dunne, Richards, Onuoha, Bridge, Garrido, Zabaleta, Ben-Haim, A.N.Other.

Midfielders\Strikers: Wright-Phillips, Barry, Ireland, Johnson, Petrov, De Jong, Kompany, Elano, Robinho, Tevez, Santa Cruz, A.N.Other, Bellamy, Bojinov, Caicedo, Benjani, Evans, Etuhu, Weiss.

Your selection:
Goalkeeper:
Defence:
Midfield:
Attack:
Subs (7):
Squad players:
Move out:

For starters here is my selection -

Kompany is not going to be fit for the Blackburn match so Onuoha should replace him. I would pick z
Zabaleta instead of Richards until he regains his form. I would also pick De Yong instead of Wright-Phillips with the intention of Wright-Phillips coming on as a substitute early in the second half. In the forward line I would start with Adebayor and replace him with Santa Cruz after an hour.

What a great dilemma to have!

Don’t think Vince will actually be ready for Bburn, but on your criteria that everyone is fit, he would certainly be in my back line. Otherwise I’d go with Onuoha. I think Nedum is ahead of Dunney & if Vince is playing Nedum would swap with Richard.

I’d go with Zabaleta at right back & I’d play Santa Cruz up front, irrespective of any other purchases. Also, I’d put Boj on the bench instaed of Bellamy. I’ve a feeling that Boj is going to be flying this season, given half a chance!

Really don’t think that City are far away now and it’s wonderful to be able just to consider the players we have got never mind other targets.

I believe that a defender is higher priority than another striker ( I’m sure most will agree! ) but with Barry in front of Bridge & Vince set to play more in the back line when available I think we only need one!

Captain, I’d surprise a few & offer it to Superman, but if he wants to concentrate on his own game then Barry!!

Happy Days, but we have to hit the ground running!

I will add that even though M.Hughes has sold, loaned out or let go of the following Hamann, Fernandes, Ball, Mills, Martin, Berti, Hart, Jo and Vassell so far this summer, with the purchase of Adebayor we will still have 50 players at City so we can still afford to sell another 10 players, personally if i was the Manager i would clear out the following:

Ben Haim, Dunne, Caicedo, Etuhu, Evans, Benjani, Bojinov, Petrov, Johnson, Logan, Bellamy, Schmeichel and possibly even more and reduce the overall playing staff from 50 down to 35 - 40.

apart from Adebayor, I would buy the following: Lucio central defence, Terry or Lescott or Another and finally striker Mohammad Zidan the egyptian, not only is he good but would be a good squad player and fairly cheap to buy, this would also appeal to the Arab fans who worship Zidan and would do City good on the merchandising side of things, selling thousands of shirts adding to City’s Arab based fan base, remember this isnt just football its a business.

Assuming that the Adebayor deal is almost done and no others come in then x-mas tree of:-
    Given

    zabeleta dunne onuoha bridge

    de jong ireland barry

    tevez robinio

    adebayor

Subs:- taylor, kompany, richards, petrov, elano, wright philips, santa cruz.

when Hughes said he wanted Captains all over the pitch i think he actually meant it literally, obviously we have Dunne the current Captain but not for long, we have Kompany who is capable of being the Captain, he wants to buy Terry Chelsea and England Captain, we have Barry who was Villa’s Captain and if we go for Lucio he’s the Brazil Captain so we could literally have Captains all over the pitch so that would be interesting.

    Given
    Richards Onuoha A.N.Other Bridge
    De Jong
    Barry Ireland
    Tevez Robinho
    Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz and Adebeyor if he comes are interchangable.

Subs:Taylor, SWP, Kompany, Petrov, Zabaleta, Bojinov/Santa Cruz or Adebeyor if he arrives, A.N.Other (defender)

Squad: Elano, Bellamy, Johnson, Weiss, Garrido (No left back cover otherwise, unless A.N.Other is Lescott), Dunne

Out:Evans, Caicedo, Benjani, Etuhu, Ben Haim, Schmeichel

I would like to give Onuoha a chance, he played well at the end of last season and I feel alongside a truly quality defender he could improve to be a leading star in the Premiership. Though this team is still rather weak at the back with no strength in depth and so could do with improvements. Oh and this assumes that Kompany is not in fact injured as I believe he is.

Why on earth would you choose Adepayor in ur team? did none of you see how poor he was last season and how many times he is offside each game, it’s like some sort of offside record! I be glad to see the back of him even for a free let alone £25m! more money than sense you lot

to the Gooner, who the Fk invited you on to here ? hahaha only joking, to be honest you have to give the fella a chance just because he was shite for you last season doesnt mean he will be for us, at the end of the day he’ll be up for it, not p—-d off at the situation at Arsenal and its a fresh start for him, he will have different players around him and if he performs like he did for you the season before last then i reckon he may be a good buy, even if we only get one good season out of him and then if his ego takes off again or he starts his nonsense, Hughes will simply sell him and replace him with someone better no doubt, i dont know if Hughes can handle him, that remains to be seen, if not he’ll sell him without hesitating i reckon, but you must give him a chance, its a different team etc etc his attitude has been bad at Arsenal but doesnt mean it will be at City, well not straight away anyway, i hope it works out for him if he does come to City but if not remember the old saying, no player is bigger than the club and anyone can be sold so i think its a chance Hughes thinks is worth taking and i agree and finally no, we aren’t ”more money than sense”, its the owners money not ours, we’re just grateful that we can finally have some top players coming to our club.

  19. Dave on July 15th, 2009 1:59 pm

oh and remember players have a tendency of coming back to haunt their old club so i predict Adebayor will score a hatrick against Arsenal next season, its sods law
