Kolo Toure has signed a four year deal with City after passing a medical earlier today and agreeing a severance package with Arsenal.

Touré is the sixth summer signing for City, following the earlier signings of Barry, Taylor, Santa Cruz, Tevez and Adebayor, and brings the clubs spending to £100 million. City are still chasing Everton’s Joleon Lescott, and his signing would give City at least two international players in all eleven positions in the team. The club has also announced that City’s player-of-the-second-half-of-last-season (in my opinion at least) Nedum Onuoha has agreed a new five-year contract.

Despite all these high profile arrivals, there have been twice as many departures so far! ELEVEN of last season’s squad have now left or gone out on season long loans - Mills, Vassell, Ball, Hamann, Berti, Hart (loan), Jo (loan), Sturridge, Fernandes, Evans and Caicedo (loan). There are also reports that Bojinov and others may be going.

All credit to Manchester City for getting it right this time, and having their squad in place by the end of July. This is in contrast to Sven’s arrival two summers ago when players were arriving late into August.

Kolo Habib Touré was born on 19th March 1981 in Bouake, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast).

The Ivorian joined Arsenal in February 2002 from ASEC Mimosas for £150,000, and made his debut against Liverpool in the FA Community Shield in August 2002.

He made 322 appearances for the Gunners, but in January this year Touré demanded a move away from Arsenal after a reputed bust-up with defensive partner William Gallas. He reportedly handed in a transfer request which was later turned down by Arsenal. City made an offer for the player which has come to fruition six months later.

He was the last remaining member of the Arsenal “Invincibles”, who went the whole of the 2003-04 season undefeated in the League.

Internationally, Touré has played for Côte d’Ivoire since making his debut in April 2000 against Rwanda, and played in the 2006 World Cup.
